Runoff

Runoff: Paint does not adhere evenly, leading to drips, drops, or the entire layer of paint sliding.

Runoff

Causes for runoff:

  1. Paint is too thick or the thinner evaporates too slowly.
  2. Applying paint without sufficient drying time between layers.
  3. Applying overly thick layers, which can be due to:
    1. Keeping the spray gun too close to the surface.
    2. Too slow spray speed.
    3. Overlapping layers.
  4. Incorrect spray gun adjustment and too low air pressure.
  5. Unbalanced spray pattern.
  6. The temperature of the environment or substrate is too low or the ventilation is insufficient.
  7. The surface is contaminated (e.g., oil, grease) or the previous paint surface is not properly sanded.

Correction:

  1. Allow the surface to dry completely before working on it.
  2. Remove excess paint by sanding with fine sandpaper (grit p800 or finer), and polish to restore the surface.
  3. Sand the surface smooth and refinish the paint job.
