Orange Peel: A painted surface with an uneven texture, resembling the skin of an orange.

Description:

A painted surface with an uneven texture, resembling the skin of an orange.

Cause:

1. The paint is too thick. The viscosity is too high for the spraying conditions.
2. The thinner evaporates too quickly under the spraying conditions.
3. Extreme temperature in the painting booth. When the air temperature is too high, the droplets lose more solvent and dry before they can spread evenly.
4. Incorrect spray gun adjustments and techniques:
   1. Too thick or too thin a layer, spray gun too far from the surface.
   2. Incorrect pressure or nozzle adjustment.
5. Improper interval between layers or too short drying time.

Prevention:

1. Thin the paint to the correct viscosity according to the recommended ratio.
2. Choose the correct thinner based on temperature, humidity, air circulation, and the size of the repair.
3. Use the correct spray gun settings, techniques, and air pressure.
4. Ensure sufficient drying time between layers.
5. Properly prepare and sand the surface.
6. Avoid extreme temperature and humidity conditions. Recommended air temperature is around 20 °C.

Correction:

1. Use polishing compound or abrasive to reduce the texture of the surface.
2. Alternatively, sand the surface with very fine sandpaper and polish to restore the gloss.
3. Or sand the surface smooth and refinish the painting.
